Melody was founded in 1994 by Rosie Cross, a music teacher living in Birmingham.
In 2003 she organised a one-day conference in Birmingham to demonstrate that people with learning disabilities gain great benefits from learning to play a musical instrument.
Out of this day came a determination to promote instrumental teaching for pupils with learning disabilities, together with the benefits of doing so, and to provide help for teachers who wish to explore this area of teaching.
Melody, is run entirely by volunteer trustees who between them share a variety of experience in teaching in both mainstream and Special Needs education.
