Written music notation is a means of communication between the composer and the performer. It is not an end in itself. Here are some alternatives to conventional notation.
Creative improvisation is an important part of learning to play a musical instrument. Children with learning disabilities are often delightfully uninhibited when it comes to expressing feelings or painting pictures in music. Here is one example, used by Rosie Cross with some of her pupils who have learning difficulties.
